California Sea Otter Sleeping on Beach

A lone California sea otter sleeps on the beach.

Sea otters spend most of their lives in the water, but occasionally, they will come onshore to rest. In the cold waters of the Pacific Ocean, they must eat constantly to so their bodies can produce enough energy to keep their bodies warm. Coming ashore allows them to conserve some of their energy.
